Teaching under the Corona virus lock down.

Hello again,

Its been a strange couple months living and teaching under the Coronavirus lock down.  Safeguarding our students is always a priority, I work in a special needs school and my class are mostly non verbal with learning difficulties and complex needs. In the beginning I really struggled to manage everything, learning unfamiliar technologies (I really had to ramp up my IT knowledge) and get used to being on camera a lot which is something I would usually avoid being a very practiced photo dodger.  Trying to “be there” for students and their families during a really stressful and worrying time for everyone while simultaneously trying to juggle the needs of my own family and managing my own corona virus fears.

Large sections of the media are labeling teachers and the teaching unions "cowards" for daring to question the governments decision to open schools to Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on June 1st. We also asked to see their ''scientific evidence'' for their decisions as quite frankly I for one am not impressed with their handling of the corona virus pandemic so far.

With total deaths today at 38,161
The UK has the second highest rate of death than in any country.

Perhaps if MPs were to allow their own children and grandchildren to be the first to return to school we’d have a little more confidence in their rhetoric.

Despite the media telling you otherwise, Teachers have continued to work through this pandemic, Schools have stayed open for key workers children and some vulnerable children, usually on a rota system for on site learning for key workers children with the remainder setting work for distance learning and delivering hard copies to pupils without internet access. We have also been delivering food parcels to any family that needs it. Currently we are planning to open up for more children,
if your school is anything like mine, the senior leadership will no doubt be communicating with parents to let you know their plans for wider reopening.

I choose to answer that negativity with Love.
